Supervisory Board Chairmanship of Sixt SE changes hands: Friedrich Joussen follows Prof. Dr. Gunter Thielen

Pullach, 22 June 2017 – Sixt SE sets course for the future with a change at helm of the Supervisory Board: Prof. Dr. Gunter Thielen (74), since 2008 Board member and its chairman, asked to resign from the Board. As he reaches the age of 75, he wants to focus more on his many other assignments and duties in future. He is succeeded by Friedrich (“Fritz”) Joussen (54), CEO of TUI AG, who was sent to the Board. The Company’s Supervisory Board elected Mr. Joussen as its new chairman.

Fritz Joussen became CEO of TUI AG in 2013. Under his leadership the holding Group of TUI AG and the previous British tourism subsidiary, TUI Travel PLC, merged into the new TUI Group with its registered headquarters in Hanover and Berlin, Germany. The business combination resulted in the worldwide leading integrated tourism Group with hotels, cruise liners, six European airlines and tour operators. TUI is active in more than 100 countries around the globe. Before moving into tourism Mr. Joussen held executive posts inside and outside Germany with Mannesmann/Vodafone for over 20 years. Prior to his current function he was Chairman of the Executive Board of Vodafone Germany from 2005 to 2012. Mr. Joussen was born in Duisburg/Germany and holds a degree in electrical engineering from Aachen/Germany.

Erich Sixt, CEO of Sixt SE: “During Prof. Dr. Thielen’s tenure as Supervisory Board Chairman our Company recorded strong growth and raised its pre-tax earnings by more than 150 percent. He made a significant contribution towards this success story. Sixt is very indebted to Prof. Dr. Thielen and it is my sincerest wish to extend my heartfelt gratitude for his excellent collaboration over these last nine years. He is succeeded by Fritz Joussen, a widely recognised expert for innovation and digitalization. His experiences in multi-national management and transformation of corporations, brands and industries are a real gain for Sixt. Not least in view of the rapid changes we see in the mobility markets and the increasing significance the tourism industry is having for our Company his wide range of experiences will be a value-adding contribution.”

Fritz Joussen: “Sixt is perfect example for a dynamically growing company with a strong brand and clear profile. This dynamism is clearly visible in its core business as well as in the development of new mobility concepts and digital services. I look forward to the new duty in the Supervisory Board and I will do everything to continue Sixt’s success story.”
